Rarely does a young voice succeed in balancing emotion with historical responsibility. The Road of Axor (Armenika Magazine Publications, 2025), written by high school senior Niki Bardi Danelian, traces the story of her great-grandfather, who endured exile following the Armenian Genocide of 1915.
Drawing on the memories of her grandfather and other family members, Niki brings together personal testimony, family history, and historical research. Through simple and direct writing, she explores the pain of displacement and loss, but also the resilience, determination, and hope of those who were forced to leave their homeland and rebuild their lives in Greece.
What makes the book particularly meaningful is the perspective of its young author. Rather than approaching history from a distance, she seeks to understand a past she did not experience herself, but which continues to shape her family and identity. In doing so, a personal story becomes a bridge between generations and a tribute to collective memory.
